New Amsterdam to New York

July 11, 2010May 9, 2012 saralissapaulson

We read On the Day Peter Stuyvesant Came To New York by Arnold Lobel (one of my very favorite books) among others and made a list of all the symbols and then they used Hyperstudio to create a computer drawing of that symbol.

Alice and Greta by Steve Simmons

Great book to talk about how to be kind to others, and to contrast/compare characters. We also read Cake Girl by David Lucas, and then made a list of how to be a good person to others.

We used Pebblego to do research on animals. The young boy who did this work was very proud. The teacher worked closely with him to produce a full sentence.

Our interests

July 11, 2010May 9, 2012 saralissapaulson

This web was part of a lesson about going to the public library over the summer. We compared and contrasted the public and the school library. Then they got ready to visit the public library by thinking about their interests and role-playing asking the librarian where they might find those kinds of books.

We read Anansi the Spider, Zomo the Rabbit, Jabuti, Arrow to the Sun, and the students depicted a scene or two which they loved and remembered from the books we read.
